Questions, answered.
Everything people ask before they join, draw, or pay. If yours is missing, write to us.
Getting started
Do I need an account to join?
No. Open the invite link or type the six-character code, enter your name, and you are in. You can add an email later from Account if you want to keep your exchanges across devices.
Who needs to sign in?
Only hosts. Creating an exchange needs an email so the event is never lost. Everyone else just needs the code.
How many people do we need?
Three at minimum. There is no upper limit.
How do people join?
Share the code, the link, or the QR from the Invite tab. Hosts can also send email invitations, or paste a list of addresses.
Can someone join after names are drawn?
Yes, until the exchange date. They will not have a match until the host redraws. The host sees how many joined late and a Redraw button right there.
The draw
Who can see who I drew?
Only you. The giftee never learns their Santa, not on screen, not in email, not from us. Our database rules enforce it, not just the design.
Can the host see the matches?
No. The host sees only their own match, like everyone else. If a Santa goes quiet, the host can redraw, but nobody can reveal a pair.
Can I stop two people drawing each other?
Yes. Hosts add rules in the Rules tab: couples, siblings, flatmates. One rule is free per exchange; Host Pro lifts the limit. The draw respects every rule, and refuses if the rules make a draw impossible.
What happens on a redraw?
Everyone gets a new match and the anonymous chats reset, so the new giftee never sees an old conversation. Hosts with Pro can instead include late joiners while keeping everyone else’s match and chat.
Someone dropped out. Now what?
The host removes them from the members list. If names were already drawn, their Santa quietly takes over their giftee and only the two affected chats reset.
Can we avoid last year’s pairs?
With Host Pro, yes. Tick “Avoid last round’s pairs” before a redraw and nobody draws the same person twice. WhoSanta does the shuffle, so your view stays sealed.
Wishlists and chat
What should I put on my wishlist?
A few ideas, sizes, and links. Your Santa sees it after the draw. Prices are optional but help them stay in budget.
How does the chat stay anonymous?
Messages show a role, “your Santa” or “your giftee”, never a name. Your Santa can ask about sizes; you can answer without learning who they are.
Why do wishlist links go through WhoSanta?
So we can count clicks and, where a store has an affiliate program, earn a small commission at no cost to you. We record the store’s domain and country, never who clicked. It is disclosed under every list and in the footer.
Can the host remind people to add a wishlist?
With Host Pro, one tap sends a reminder by email to everyone who has none, once a day. For guests without an email, the host gets a ready-made message to paste in the group chat.
Host Pro
What is Host Pro?
A one-time seasonal pass for hosts. It unlocks unlimited exclusion rules, premium themes, a branded invite page, redraws that keep chats, wishlist nudges, a roster export, and fresh-pair redraws. The exchange itself stays free for everyone.
How much is it, and how long does it last?
₱99 in the Philippines, $3.99 elsewhere. It covers every exchange you host through 31 January, with a minimum of 90 days. Nothing renews.
Do my guests pay anything?
Never. Guests see no prices and no locks. Pro features apply to the whole exchange once the host has a pass.
Where do I buy it?
From your account, or from any locked feature on an event you host. Checkout is handled by Polar.
Team tier
What is the Team tier for?
Offices and big groups. It is bought per exchange and adds co-hosts, departments with a draw rule, bulk invitations up to 500 addresses, a company link like whosanta.com/j/acme, and Slack or Teams updates.
How is it priced?
By group size, one payment per exchange: up to 30 people, up to 100, or unlimited. Prices are in pesos in the Philippines and dollars elsewhere, and the invoice comes from Polar. Nothing you already have is taken away; only bulk invitations are capped by the band.
What can a co-host do?
Everything a host does to run the exchange: invite, draw, nudge, set rules, change the look, remove people, export. Only the owner can buy, add co-hosts, or delete the exchange.
How do departments work?
Hosts tag each person with a team and pick a rule: anyone can draw anyone, draw across teams only, or draw within your own team. People without a team are unconstrained.
What gets posted to Slack or Teams?
Short notices: names are drawn, a reminder went out, someone joined. Never who drew whom, and never a join link.
Payments
Who charges my card?
Polar, our merchant of record. The charge on your statement shows Polar. They handle card details, receipts, and tax; we never see your card.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full within 14 days of purchase. Email contact@whosanta.com from the address on your account. Polar may also refund under its own buyer terms.
I paid but nothing unlocked.
Reload the page first; it usually lands within a minute. If not, send us the Polar receipt and we will set it right the same day.
Privacy and data
What do you store about me?
For hosts, an email and the exchanges you create. For guests, the name you typed. For everyone, the wishlist items and anonymous messages in your exchanges. The full list is in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Hosts can delete an exchange, which removes everything in it. To delete your account, email contact@whosanta.com from the address on it.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. WhoSanta works in any phone browser, and the invite link opens straight to the join page.
